Interactive Ecotourism Along the Danube

Interactive Exhibition Spaces

As part of the project, we developed applications that guide visitors through the Danube region near Karva, introducing the local flora and fauna in a playful manner. During the development of the attractions, we paid great attention to modern interactive exhibition elements that are proven to engage visitors more effectively.

Danubium - The Danube experience point

Within the framework of the Slovak-Hungarian cross-border cooperation program, we delivered several interactive attractions to the Danubium ecotourism visitor center in Karva (Slovakia) as a winner of the RiWild (Riverside Wildlife Once and Today) INTERREG* project.

The primary objectives of the project included increasing tourist activity and establishing a modern exhibition that offers a high educational experience.

The following attractions were created as part of the project:

Touchscreen Wall:

On the 7m x 1.5m interactive surface, projected by 3 projectors, multiple visitors can interact simultaneously by touching the wall. Through these interactions, the underwater and riverside wildlife of the Danube comes to life. Trees rustle, fish change direction, and birds take flight in response to the touched areas. Visitors can also see their own handiwork on the wall: by coloring different templates and scanning their creations, the colored objects (hot air balloon, paper boat) and animals (barbel, carp, catfish) appear on the wall.

Interactive Flipbook:
This attraction introduces visitors to the mythological creation stories of the Danube through a presentation controlled by hand gestures. The application presents three stories: the goddess Danu in Celtic mythology, Istros in Greco-Roman mythology, and "Between Gods and Humans." In case of inactivity, the application automatically flips through the pages at specified intervals.

Three-Screen Installation - Film:
This film runs on three side-by-side monitors that open windows to the past, allowing viewers to learn about the history of the area from ancient times to the present day. It's a 2D animated and live-action film, with the particular challenge of telling historical events and presenting important figures clearly without narration.

Roll-up Panels:

Traditional exhibition tools, in the form of roll-up panels, also appear in the exhibition hall. We used roll-up panels primarily for portability, at the client's request. The illustrated panels feature information about the most characteristic fish species, waterfowl, and mammals living in the Danube floodplains. The text on the panels is available in both Slovak and Hungarian, and by scanning the QR codes on the panels, the text can also be accessed in English.

During the development, we worked closely with several experts, ensuring the scientific integrity of the information presented in the attractions. In addition, continuous communication with the client was crucial to ensure that our developments effectively contributed to achieving their goals and that the envisioned exhibition space was realized.

Results:
The Danubium visitor center was enriched with modern, interactive, and educational attractions as a result of the project, contributing to the enhancement of tourism in the region. The project demonstrates how modern technology and natural values can be effectively combined to create an attractive tourist destination.

The implementation of the project involved our Art & Entertainment (ARVR) and Film & Visual (ZengoFilm) teams.

Through the successful implementation of the RiWild INTERREG project, Karva along the Danube gained a modern, interactive ecotourism visitor center. The attractions contribute to increasing tourism in the region and introducing local wildlife to visitors. The project showcases how to effectively combine modern technology and the presentation of natural values to create an appealing tourist destination.
