Topsafe occupational safety VR application

In addition to the commercial activity, the owners place great emphasis on the professional background of labour safety, which is essential for the distribution of quality products, and for this reason, they regularly hold further training for their partners and employees (at an external location or a training facility). The management staff also have occupational safety qualifications and put their knowledge to work.

Topsafe Kft. commissioned us to develop the VR application. Our company already has a lot of experience developing VR attractions and VR education/training applications and we offer a variety of solutions, so we are happy to tackle this task as well. The development processes are characterized by close collaboration with the client. The customer is actively taking part in the development and provides the necessary professional information about occupational health and safety so that it complies with its partners and legal requirements in all aspects. The development of the application began in June 2023 and it is still ongoing.

The advantage of VR training is that it provides an intense and true-to-life experience that aids learning and practice. In a virtual environment, workers can experience, among other things, realistic situations that they would not be able to do safely under normal conditions, and this helps them to prepare for and better understand the dangers and to learn the correct behaviour in situations like that. 

The VR application is going to be specially optimized for the Oculus Quest 2 headset. We are using the latest and most efficient solutions for constructing the virtual space, grouping the 3D elements into modules. Using these modular elements e.g., a warehouse or factory yard can be easily built and customized based on the customer's request. We also put a lot of emphasis on creating lifelike and accurate digital copies of the safety equipment. When creating the belts, ropes and safety clothing, we use real equipment as a basis using traditional modelling and photogrammetry techniques. To aid the transition from real-life safety training to VR, a practice room will be added for employees who are less experienced in the use of  VR devices and applications, where all the controls of the VR application can be mastered.

Overall, the Topsafe VR occupational safety app will be a great tool to promote workplace safety. The modern technology and flexible structure will help educate employees more efficiently and effectively. Two teams of Zengo Kft. – the AR / VR team responsible for the VR framework and technical assembly of the module, and the ZengoWeb team responsible for building the web interface and database – participate in the development.
